1. Markham kitchen electrical:
3. City permit、ESA notification、utility

Markham kitchen electrical — English coordination worksheet
Use this worksheet at a pre-construction meeting with your designer, kitchen supplier and Licensed Electrical Contractor. It is a planning aid, not a wiring specification, permit application or substitute for professional assessment. The objective is to make equipment decisions traceable before custom orders and site work depend on them.
Prepare an equipment register
Create one row for every appliance that will remain, move or be added. Record the manufacturer, exact model, installation manual, proposed location and purchase status. Separate an option being considered from a product already selected. Ask the relevant professional to confirm the information needed for the electrical assessment. Do not infer electrical requirements from an appliance photograph, a showroom label or the dimensions of the previous unit.
Include intended future equipment in a separate section. A possible heat pump or vehicle charger is not automatically part of the kitchen contract, but the electrical contractor should know about it before assessing the overall plan. Record whether future provision is included, excluded or still being evaluated. This avoids turning a casual conversation about future needs into an assumed construction commitment.
Ask for a defined assessment outcome
The useful answer is not simply “the panel looks fine.” Ask what was inspected, what information supported the assessment and what remains uncertain. Request an explanation of whether the proposed equipment can proceed with the existing arrangement, whether further investigation is needed, or whether a service-related option must be explored. Technical calculations and equipment selections belong with the appropriately qualified professionals.
If the conclusion depends on a particular appliance configuration, retain that configuration with the decision record. Changing from one cooking arrangement to another can change more than the cabinet opening. Do not approve a product substitution until the relevant installation, electrical and dimensional information has been reviewed together. The person buying appliances should know who must approve a substitution and how to obtain that decision.
Coordinate drawings before fabrication
Give the kitchen supplier and site team a common drawing revision. Mark appliance locations, cabinetry, access panels and interfaces that need confirmation. Ask who is responsible for keeping the equipment register aligned with the drawing. A dimension on a concept layout should remain provisional until the responsible parties have checked it against the actual product and site conditions.
For an island, discuss how equipment, storage and seating compete for space. A drawer, connector, plumbing route or service-access requirement may affect the usable arrangement. This is a coordination discussion, not permission to move or modify electrical components yourself. Record the agreed outcome before cabinet fabrication and stone templating depend on it.
Separate the three approval conversations
Ask the design team which municipal permissions apply to the complete renovation scope. Ask the electrical contractor which ESA notification and review steps apply to their work. Where a service change is proposed, identify the electricity distributor and the person coordinating with it. Track these as separate responsibilities so that one completed application is not mistaken for clearance from every authority.
Use the current requirements applicable to your project. ESA announced that the 2024 Ontario Electrical Safety Code took effect on May 1, 2025. This is an established code reference, not a new September 2026 policy announcement. Ask the electrical contractor to identify relevant requirements for the installation rather than using an old renovation article as a technical specification.
Build a sequence with decision gates
Agree on the order of equipment confirmation, assessment, any required service coordination, rough work, review milestones and finishes. Identify who releases the next stage and how that release is recorded. Do not assume that a tentative utility appointment or an inspection request is a completed approval. Tell the scheduling team when information or access is still outstanding.
If the household remains in the home, discuss planned interruptions and a practical temporary-kitchen arrangement before demolition. Keep access routes and work areas separate from family activity where the project plan requires it. Electrical safety decisions should be made with the electrical contractor; the homeowner should not improvise connections to keep an appliance operating during construction.
Make quotations comparable
Ask each proposal to state the equipment schedule and drawing revision it prices. Separate confirmed electrical work from allowances, exclusions and investigation items. Identify responsibility for making good to ceilings, walls and cabinetry after service routes are installed. If utility-related costs or work remain unknown, ask how they will be confirmed and authorized rather than treating a blank line as a zero.
Compare responsibilities as carefully as totals. One quotation may include coordination and restoration while another leaves those tasks with the homeowner. Neither difference is automatically a defect, but it changes the scope being purchased. Keep a written change process for revised equipment, concealed conditions and any resulting schedule impact. This worksheet does not set a price or promise that an upgrade will be unnecessary.
Hypothetical decision example
Imagine a homeowner replacing an existing kitchen and considering an induction cooktop, separate oven and a larger island. This is an illustrative scenario, not a Roy Studio Build client result. The owner first provides product options and the proposed layout. The electrical contractor assesses the relevant existing conditions and proposed demand, while the kitchen supplier checks installation dimensions and access needs.
If one appliance option changes, the team revisits the affected information before ordering custom cabinetry. If service work is needed, that becomes a separate coordination item with its own responsibilities and dependencies. If it is not needed, the basis for that decision is still recorded. The benefit is a clearer, executable scope—not an unsupported claim of savings, faster approval or increased property value.
